Marques in the Park
2009

A new venue for the annual event of Marques in the Park. It was to be
held on the grounds outside the National Library adjacent to
Commonwealth Bridge.

We all gathered at our usual meeting place, KFC Fyshwick. I got there
about 8.10am and there was already a good bunch waiting. Looked like we
were going to have a good attendance. The weather forecast was for a
mainly fine day with the possibility of a shower. Regardless it was
worth attending as the new venue would probably bring in a better crowd
with more exposure to the public being held near major roads.

We headed off at 8.30am sharp. It was a fair sort of convoy with about
10 cars in line, even Cal brought his drag car along on the
trailer....We headed into the venue and set up. We had a good position
by the road where we could be seen by all. In all there was 7 Torana's
and two Commodore's. After the set up we wanded around and checked out
the display of cars. It was a really nice spectacle with probably around
300 cars of all makes and models on display. It was a really great turn
out and some really nice cars.

By 11.00 am we decided to crank the BBQ up. Nothing like a Sausage
sizzle for brunch. I had the honours of being chef today, Craig B made a
great kitchen hand slash apprentice chef. Once the troops were fed we
all settled back for a relaxing afternoon and a quiet beer. The weather
was very mild and a bit overcast but perfect temperature wise. It
threatened to shower with a few spots of rain dropping but nothing to
worry about.

We decided to pack up around 1.00pm. What a great day and in my opinion
a better venue than previously. Gerry.
