Marques in the Park
Sunday 10th November 2013
Marques in the Park 2013 At the last club meeting we decided to swap the Cooma Motorfest run with the annual Marques in the Park pilgrimage due to a lack of interest for the Cooma run. Although being held by new event organisers, Marques in the Park was still being held at the same time of year and the same venue as in previous years. It is always a great day out with several hundred cars for people to observe and enjoy. The start to the day was not very inviting at all looking at the sky! With rain forecast across the day it would definitely scare off many participants as well as observers so it would be interesting to see who was game enough to attend. Anyway, half a dozen of us brave Torry lovers made the trek to the OPH meeting point. For the first time I can remember, the UC contingent equaled the LX/H contingent. Well done to the UC clan. We headed off at 8.30am sharp to John Knight Memorial Park in Belconnen. As expected, the number of cars was well down on normal years. That didn't deter us committed folk though :-) So we started the morning with bacon and egg sandwiches to get some warmth back into our bodies. The BBQ doubled up as a heater for us too. The kids did their thing and headed over to the playing equipment. Now that breakfast was done, we all meandered around the park at our own leisure to check out the talent on display! Although the numbers were down, there were still some lovely cars on display. One good point was that you had more time to check the cars out in more detail. As predicted, the rain dropped in and out all morning making it a little cool and at times uncomfortable. But with the shade tent up we managed to keep dry and chat the morning away. So much so, lunch time was upon us before we knew it. Although a little early, we decided another good feed would keep the body heaters ticking over. Again the feed was top notch and with full bellies, we all decided enough was enough so we decided to pack up and head home to the warmth of our homes. Again another good day was had by all. Thanks to those who made the effort given the fickle conditions. Thanks also to the new event orgainsers, our club always enjoys this run and it is good to see that it will continue on a annaul basis. Cheers to all. Gerry CTC Run Co-ordinator |
