Marques in the Park
Sunday 9th November 2014
CTC Marques in the park 2014 Well it looks like the hot weather is finally upon us with Summer only a few weeks away. We had an early start on Sunday morning all meeting up at Old Parliament House for the convoy out to John Knight Memorial Park for the annual Marques in the Park car display. According to the weather forecast it was going to be a very hot day! By the time 8.00am rolled around we had about 10 cars ready to make the trek out to Lake Ginninderra. As always it was a leisurely run and we managed to keep fairly close together in convoy. We arrived at around 8.30am and filed into the car park at the back of the College and drove through to the venue to set up. Members set their cars up in the usual location and today we were graced with a new car in the club collection with the proud new owner, Caddo, one of our bookends, finally deciding to let the moths out of his purse and buy a very nice clean LH with all the fruit after his bride pushed him into buying the car after pondering over it for a week or so. The poor lad was too time poor to finish the build on the Torry he had tucked away in his shed. So he sold it all off and decided buying a car already done was the only way to go for him. Well done mate, a car for most of us to be envious over! Within half an hour of being settled, the call went out for members to come and get their bacon and egg sandwiches for a late breakfast. What a great way to start the day! With breakfast done, it was time to tour the venue and check out all the cars on display before it got too hot. It took a good 45 minutes to wander around and check out all the cars. At a guess there would have been around 300 cars on display of all makes and models! By the time I got back, it was already very warm and time to sit down and chat with a cold soft drink in hand. The kids as usual entertained themselves. The venue is excellent for kids to run amok with a great playground, and of course, the lake close at hand. Before we knew it lunch time was upon us and the BBQ was cranked up to pump out a tasty lunch of snags and steaks to accompany the fresh salads. A BBQ lunch it always a hit with members and the kids. So with everyone feed, it was that time in the day where we were all settled and chatted away merrily. It was good to see Brad and Shelley pop in for a visit too. With the afternoon getting away from us quickly, members started packing up and leaving for home around 2pm after a nice relaxing day in the park. Thanks to all those that made the effort to come out and display, and thanks to the cooks for the day. As always it was a most enjoyable day for all. See you all the Chrissie party next month. Our final run for the year! Cheers, Gerry |
