Another beautiful winter’s day to go and drive some cars, happened again as the Sutton Road Driver Training Center opened its gates to the Canberra Torana Club on Sunday.
There was a lot of support happening with seven cars, (2 Toranas, 2 Commodores, a Chev powered Ute, a Charade and a HX wagon) gracing the facilities that Paul had organized.

After a wait which past the original meeting time, we had the drivers briefing then off to the Skid Pan and Track which was opened up to the noise of our drivers learning some of the challenges it takes to drive their cars. There was a 3 lap challenge on the Skid Pan, and some laps of the bigger track, after a stop for some Caffeine, drivers did some more laps and then Rod kicked the BBQ into gear and started to cook all of the meat which Mastercut Meats provided for the day, the bread was buttered by some volunteers which as always is greatly appreciated, lunch was called and everyone satisfied their hunger.

After lunch the Slalom course and the Go-to-Whoa tracks were set up and the drivers took on the challenge of driving through the courses set up by Phil, Rod & Dean.

The Skid Pan showed horsepower wasn’t the ingredient needed for a good time with Trev’s 6 pot stealing the show, Joe’s Charade showed it’s worth putting in a good show at both the Skid Pan and Slalom but John’s LJ looked the goods on the go-to-whoa until Laurie with ABS & Traction control nailed a good run to win by 1/100th of a second.

Although people slowly filtered away during the course of the afternoon, 2-30 saw a drivers de-briefing and stories of the day’s events were banded around with a good laugh and day had by all.
