Other Vehicles at Shannons Wheels

On Sunday March 16th we had the annual Shannons Wheels Expo.  Unlike previous years, it was held on the lake foreshores near the Carillon.

Our traditional meeting point, Old Parliament House, was again the place we all met up. Start time was 7.30am for a rather early 8.00am departure.  We also had to share the meeting place with the Street Machine Club of Canberra so the car park was rather full.

In all 12 Toranas' turned up.  Once we were all organised, we started to proceed to the venue. It is only a 5 minute drive so we were there to set up bright and early.

As this was the first time this venue had been used, the placement of cars was a little sporadic but we managed to score a reasonably good spot away from most of the dust. That said, the crew set up and before we knew it, we were all indulging in bacon and egg sandwiches for breaky. A nice hearty to start to the day indeed.

Once the masses had all arrived and set up, we all decided to have a stroll around and check out all the different makes and models. There looked to be about 500 cars there in all. There was a Rolls Royce collection of Silver Ghosts, that looked to be something out of the movie, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, that had been touring around Australia, and from what one of the owners told me, some of the them around the world.  There were 20 of them in all and they were a sight to behold. Averaging 8MPG over the many thousands of kilometres meant the owners needed very deep pockets J .

Before we knew it lunch time was upon us. Again the trusty old BBQ was fired up and lunch was on its way.  As always, the spread of food was more than enough to keep the family well fed.

By early afternoon the wind had built up and the lake was looking more like a choppy sea. The skies also looked a little threatening and there was the odd small drop of rain.  Not enough to dampen the day but enough to see most folk pack up and head back home satisfied they had seen enough.

In all we had 13 Toranas turn up with about 30 members in all.  So a big thanks to all that attended. Hope everyone had a great day.

Chow for now.
