CTC Run - Shannons Wheels
Sunday 8th of March was our annual CTC run to Shannons Wheels display.
This is notably Canberra's largest static car show with around 800-1000
cars on display.
The venue has varied over the last few years but it seems that the
newest location along the lake foreshore, adjacent to the Carillon is
the new haunt for the event.
Anyway, we all arrived at Old Parliament House at around 8.00 to enable
us to convoy into the event together. The car park at Old Parliament
House was already full with early morning goers watching the air
balloons take off for the conclusion of the Enlighten festival. Come
8.30am we decided we were ready to head over to the venue and set up.
We took a small unexpected detour due to road changes, which threw the
lead car, but still managed to get there on time to set up.
Set up was straight forward with everyone chipping in to get the trailer
set up and the banners flying. Once that task was sorted Mr Spencer and
son lit the BBQ and started on the bacon and eggs. The bacon and eggs
'sangas' are always a great start to the day!
With everyone feed and now settled, folks went about checking out all
the cars on display. Given it was a public holiday long weekend, the
turn out of cars was spectacular. I would have guessed that the 800-1000
car mark was pretty close to the mark.
The Gods were kind again and blessed us with a beautiful Autumn day. In
fact it was very warm by mid afternoon and the shade tents came in handy.
The chefs again fired up the BBQ for lunch and our usual feed of steak
and snags feed the troops for lunch. Thanks to Pete and Simon in main
for being the chief chefs for the day!
The afternoon was well and truly upon us and folks started heading off
home. This was a sign that it was time to pack up the trailer and head
off ourselves. In all it was another great day with about 25 members
showing up and about 9 Torana's in total. We also had a lovely Mustang
display with us this year that fit in nicely and looked a million bucks.
Thanks to all those that made the effort, even if it was only for a
quick hello, especially given it was a long weekend.
See you for the next run at the end of the month. Chow for now!
