Xmas Party 2011

CTC 2011 Christmas Party

Wow, Christmas is nearly upon us already, what a year it has been.  Sunday the CTC held its annual Christmas party, and for the first time we voted to have it down at Black Mountain Peninsula.  The start to the day was not at all promising after waking to a downpour.  But living in the beautiful Tuggeranong Valley you are extremely fortunate to have views to the Brindabella's and can usually gauge the weather and it looked like things were going to clear enough to have our Chrissie gathering.

That said, things did clear up and we all headed on down for an action packed day.  This year the committee had planned a great day for all with a great BBQ feast and some excellent prizes, donated by our kind sponsors, for the end of year Christmas raffle.

Once we were all set up, the nibbles were set out on the tables and the grazing began.  I must say that Fiona's cobloaf dip was a huge success.  I know I say it every year, but again the ladies were working overtime to ensure everyone was well looked after and that the food stocks were never depleted.  As usual their services were outstanding!  The club cannot thank you ladies enough.

This year the BBQ was driven by Max and he did a sterling job cooking the snags, steaks, kebabs, bacon and onions.  Thanks Max.  In addition to the good variety of meat there was also plenty of salads to choose from.

As people settled in for lunch mother nature reminded us of it fickleness as it decided to shower on and off through the course of the afternoon.  Luckily enough we were relatively well prepared and had 4 marquees set up to keep everyone dry.

After the tribe had been fed, and when the weather settled down, some of the parents and kids managed to get a game of cricket in.  There was also a great play ground nearby for the kids to play on as well.

After lunch it was time for the formalities and the club super raffle.  Every year the club hands out trophies to members and sponsors in appreciation of their contributions to the club. The trophy presentations went as follows:

Club member achievement award:  Steve B

Club sponsor award: Capital Steering and Suspension

Encouragement award:  Callum H

Leading club points scorer:  Craig B

2 nd place club points scorer:  Mick H

3 rd place club points scorer:  Gerry W

The club really appreciates those who contribute to its running as it would not be possible for it to survive without such contributions.  A big thanks to all!

With the formalities out of the way, the club raffle kicked off.  There was a lot at stake with all the prizes on offer and the tribe started becoming quite competitive when the raffle was being conducted.  It really added to the atmosphere and provided a lot of laughs for all.  As it turns out I think the southsiders out did the northsiders in the raffle stakes!  Good to see I say J

Anyway, the  weather started looking a little ominous again and those who brought their Torry's decided to head home as hail storms were forecast.  It was then decided that we should pack up to avoid being caught up in another downpour. I must say that the day was great fun in all and it was great to see so many members turn out.

A special thanks must go out to all the club sponsors for their contributions throughout the year.  As well to all the members for making our club such a great club.

All the best for Christmas and the New Year.

Cheers, Gerry.
